Palak Jaiswal gives the series a five out of five stars & notes that while classic works of literature are often best left intact, Anne with an E, offers a useful case study of when ‘the remake of the classic is better than the original’
She adds it’s portrayal is one that is ‘realistic of what life was like during the time period for an orphan girl’.
Rotten Tomatoes gave 83 % rating while Metacritic gave 79 based on the reviews.
Right from the first episode, we are plunged into a world long gone, but the prjudices remain. The Brother- sister duo wishing for a boy to be adopted get a girl instead! Their disappointment & the reaction of people around for the ‘orphan girl’ is extreme.
Over a missing brooch she is expelled. But she is searched for & brought back, enrolled in a school! All in just 2 episodes! Loved the pace & the powerful story.
What stands out is her will to live, to tide over with a smile & language which is her solace.
Interesting.
