A list was made a week ago. Essentials were to be purchased. But… lazy bones, me! I had to pick myself up & go to the market. Sometimes being a couch potato( that I am very much ) has a great dis advantage!
I knew I had to do it. But… online shopping is no thrill! The shop keeper looks at you. Sizes you up. Then goes to a rack. Maya times assumes you may not afford it! I remember going to a bakery. I wanted to buy a couple of fresh Patti. He thought I wouldn’t give or afford them! From the counter he was telling me ‘a couple would cost Rs 14’. I just nodded my head.
Also going for branded clothes or accessories is a hassle. We don’t know if it is authentic! If they last longer, when will I buy new ones? Indian national dress or the Salwar kurta, stitched is better. But again, the tailor has his own whims. For years I have worn readymades. The next day I can start wearing them.
The tailor never keeps his word & the trips to his shop are tiring. Recently, I have found one. He gives me a date & I pick up in the evening. I tried it once. On my way back from college, I visited him to find that he had not finished!
Yesterday, going to the main road in the crowds was tiring. Also the shops are spaced out. Walking was a task with so many people around. Living in a quiet place, tracing back the same steps has made me complacent, I feel.
Now, for years I haven’t visited a friend on a whim! Of course blaming Covid will be easy but I feel I have made my choice. Not stepping out even when it is necessary! I admire those who go in the crowds for nostalgia!
The sights tire me. Am I given to my soaps in the evening? Yes. That flight to Seoul, Shanghai or Tokyo is far better. Trip to Surat or Singapore is also okay. But mingling in the crowds, dust, push or pull is just too much.
The walk also takes a toll. I could feel my limbs paining. Earlier my feet or legs never complained. But that is different now! Is it age? Is it atrophy? Is it just a change that the body cannot take?
Whatever it maybe. It has set in, inertia. To sit still & observe is, much better. Shopping? I generously leave it to you!
