It is the authorized self titled biography of American business magnate & co-founder of Apple. This book was written at the request of Jobs by Walter Issacson, a former executive at CNN & Time who is known for writing the best selling biographies of Benjamin Franklin & Albert Einstein.
This book was released on October 24, 2011. 19 days after his death. A film adaptation was released on October 9, 2015.
The front cover uses a photo of Steve Jobs commissioned by Fortune magazine in 2006. It was taken by Albert Watson. ‘If you look at the shot, you see the intensity. It was my intention that by looking at him, you know this guy was smart. I heard later that it was his favorite photograph of all time.’ – Albert Watson.
The book reviews were mixed. A number of his family & close colleagues expressed disapproval.
Commercially the book was a success. It sold three million copies in the US alone by 2015.
He comes across as a real person without any frills. Accepting that he was an extraordinary person who was also a normal human being, his struggles take us a level above. Not bogged down by his birth history, he strived to make a change for the world. He displayed his passion for perfection which Paul, his father had instilled in him.
A beautiful biography. Walter makes it very readable.
