This opening line is so exciting. The song that follows becomes a hit in no time. Lets start with.. Ek ladki bheegi bhagi si.. from ‘Chalti ka naam gadi’ had rains, A car , garage & Madhubala with Kishore da. It made for one of the best songs ever filmed. Whatever rain song followed I can assure you it was n’t the same! The entire film hinges on this song because he doesn’t get his due & has to follow her. Money? Panch rupaiya bara anna! so much money. He has give hisaab to his big brother, Ashok Kumar.
Then with Anil Kapoor..Ek ladki ko dekha to aisa laga..when he imagines Manisha Koirala in 1942: A love story. I never knew till then that so many things can be felt! Ujli kiran aur baan mein hiran.. Mandir mein ho ek jalta diya… she looks so beautiful with these serene thoughts never again! The songs best of RD Burman before his death make them more significant!
Later comes..’Woh ladki bahut yaad aati hai ‘from ‘Qayamat’ with Ajay Devgan & Neha Dhupia. He dreams of her & imagines her everywhere. One of the fine actresses always under estimated. She has given us less but significant films. If she makes her presence felt in a shot or two means she is good ,really good.
“Kahi ek masoom najuk si ladki bahut khobsurat magar savli si..” from Shankar Hussain is sung by Mohd. Rafi. I have not been able to forget it till today. The lyrics are excellent & so is the filming. The girl is so demure, natural & very shy. Very beautiful naturally.
With the ladki in “Chaal baaz” Sridevi in the rain song with her typical style. With Sunny Deol ‘Na jaane kahan se aayi hai na jaane kaha ko jayegi ye ladki….kisi ke hath na aayegi ye ladki…Sridevi in her double role. In ‘Seeta aur geeta ‘ it was Dharmendra with Hema Malini in her double role.
So taking leave of the pretty ‘Ladki’ to move forward. Happy moving!
