It means ‘Hope’. Ashalata Ganpat Bhosale ( born Ashalata Dinanath Mangeshkar ) left for the heavenly abode. Born on 8 Sept. 1933 , demise 12 April 2026.

Come September & it will be just the month of September. No melody or songs. She was an Indian playback singer, business woman, actress & TV personality. Known for her versatility, one of the greatest & influential singers in Hindi cinema.

Younger sister of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. Her work included film music, pop, gazals, bhajans, traditional Indian music, folk songs, qawwalies & Rabindra Sangeet. She has sung in over 20 Indian languages & foreign languages.

In 2013, she made debut as an actress in the film ‘Mai’ & received critical acclaim for her performance.

In 2006, she stated she had recorded over 12, 000 songs in her career.

Asha & Lata are household names. A song played on radio would be often one of theirs. I can’t think of our childhood without them. I went through all the awards she received & more the wiser left it in the long list.

She ruled our hearts. What more can I say?
