Arijit Singh announced retirement from playback singing came as a shock for his millions of fans. As the lyrisist Raj Shekhar who worked with him for ‘Hichki’ (2018) rightly said, “The person in me who loves to listen to Arijit is a little disheartened…..But as an artist, I am happy.What is the meaning of success? It’s having the freedom to make your own choices, live life on your own terms & express your art in a way that brings your heart joy’.
In 2006, he came into limelight because of the reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ (Sony). He lost in the finals but was noticed. He got a call from composer Pritam in 2010 that changed everything.
He worked for Pritam & got to sing for Ilahi (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani)2013, Gerua (Dilwale) 2015, Channa Mereya (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil) 2016, Kalank ( Kalank)2019, Kesariya (Brahmastra) 2022 among others.
Ed Shreen said he heard the plaintive ‘Tum Hi ho'(Aashiqui 2, 2013 & thought ‘it was the most beautiful song of all time’. They collaborated on last year’s global hit , Sapphire.
He has lead a quiet life in his town & will do so here after.
