It is an Indian Hindi language period mystery thriller film.Directed by Dibakar Banerjee. Written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, Dibakar Banerji. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Anand Tiwari, Neeraj Kabi, Swastika Mukherjee & Meiyang Chang.
It is based on ‘Satyanweshi’ & Arthamanartham by Sharadindu Bandopadhyay.
Made on a budget of Rs 35 Crores, it garnered Rs 46.8 Crores.
Released on 3 April 2015. It opened to positive reviews from the critic. It became a box office bomb.
A sequel with Sushant Singh Rajput reprising his role was planned, but the film was shelved after his death.
Before shooting, workshops were held. Rajput said, he took a leave of 2-3 months for Detective Byomkesh Bakshy after the release of Shuddh Desi Romance. The look of 1940s’ hairstyle, body, accent for the film. The costume was designed by the designer Manish Malhotra.
The sets were designed by Vandana Kataria to showcase the lifestyle of the people who lived during the turbulent times of World War II. To give the look of 1943, the heritage zone of B B D Bagh was transported back to the pre independence era, with vintage cars & old trams back on the streets. A lot of VFX effects were used to reflect the old charm.
Filming took place in Kolkata & Mumbai. Mumbai ‘s Byculla region & Lalbazar, Presidency University, Coffee house & Bow Barracks in Kolkata. Also in Agarpara in Kolkata.
Rohit Vats of Hindustan Times gave 4/5 stars & wrote ‘ It ‘s a film that will keep you glued to the screen for all 135 minutes it runs to. Don ‘t think of even missing a minute of it’.
A lot of suspense & violence.
Byomkesh Bakshi TV series (1993 -97)created by Basu Chaterjee, starring Rajit Kapur as Byomkesh Bakshi & KK Raina as Ajit resp. It became one of the most critically acclaimed & celebrated adaptation of the character.
It took a while to get adjusted to Sushant ‘s look. Then it was a treat.
