After Xiao Qiao marries Wei Shao, she is in the traditional red costume. Actually when he first comes across the bride, she is in red. He is not ready to marry because of the family feud.
Later her grandfather dies & she is in mourning. Wearing whites or pastels. Then she accompanies him for the inauguration of the Deer hunt, she is in all finery.
As they settle in their newly married state, their behaviour & costumes with the amenities in their mansion start changing.
If I have to compare with the other Chinese drama. ‘Story of Yanxi Palace’ 2018, She is the palace maid in the court of the Quinlong Emperor. As she moves up the ladder , she reaches the Emperor himself. As the imperial Noble consort , she is given the authority to manage the Inner palace.
The sets, costumes are lavish. As she moves from the Embroidery to Changchun Palace her attire changes. Till she reaches the status of Noble consort her costumes are more elaborate & be jeweled.
If we compare with ‘Empress Ki’ 2013 South Korean drama, she is a Goryeo born who ascends to power despite of the era’s class system & marries Toghon Temur (Emperor of Yuan dynasty) to become a Yuan empress.
The main stay is the strong female characters. Without being arrogant they pave their own way.
From the denial to enter Yujin, for three wet days & nights to becoming the dear wife of the Lord of Wei, Xiao politely, calmly settles in. Later when Lady Yu Lou accuses her brother, she confronts her with another individual & shows her Lord that the woman is bluffing.
How I loved her ! Without a word she managed to dispel the mis -understanding created.
