It is a 2024 Taiwanese -Japanese romance film. Directed by Michihito Fujii. Produced by Chang Chen. It stars Greg Hsu, Kaya Kiyohara with Joseph Chang, Shunsuke Michieda & others.
The film follows a recently fired Taiwanese video game developer on a solo trip to Japan. He is reminiscing about a past romantic entanglement with a Japanese backpacker that never blossomed into a relationship.
Adapted from a travelogue published on the internet by Taiwanese video game developer Jimmy Lai in 2014, the film stuck in development before Japanese filmmaker Fujii joined the project in 2019. He has turned it into a collaborative film between Taiwan & Japan.
The film ‘s world premiere was held at the Ambassador Theatre in Taipei on 14 Feb. 2024. It followed theatrical release on 14 March & 3 May in Taiwan & Japan respectively.
Alan Chu lauded the film for it’s nostalgic & romantic elements, blending both Taiwanese & Japanese aesthetics & it’s breathtaking cinematography. He also commended Greg Hsu for his versatile performance & Kaya Kiyohara for delivering an emotionally moving portrayal.
Like it’s reference to the 1995 film, ‘Love Letter’ it gives us that lost feeling all over again. The time gone & the lost opportunities.
