Dr Slump

Finally finished watching the much awaited drama. After the first few episodes, it slumps. Getting a break from Netflix, I also ventured into the old drama, ‘Princess Hours’ on Viki.

Remembering ‘Coffee Prince ‘ & comparing it with ‘Princess Hours’ I had a good time. The protagonist is the same actress. With her short hair she is better in ‘Coffee Prince’. The era of the Kings is long gone but we, the public is fascinated by the Royalty. A commoner entering an arranged marriage with the Crown Prince, leads to an interesting tale.

Then I went to the Chinese dramas & searched for Dylan Wang. I found his new one ‘Only For Love’ where he is a businessman & handling his first interview with a reporter. As they navigate attraction , it becomes entertaining. He hasn’t lost his touch!

Later, I watched ‘Unchained Love’ where he is again in the palace guarding the Emperor. He is the Chief of the Imperial army. He saves the concubine of the late Emperor & gradually falls for her.

Marking his third drama, “Miss the Dragon’ I went back to ‘Dr Slump’ on Netflix. The final episodes are good. But very slow. The second pair, both divorcee take so long to acknowledge each other, it is the fag end of the 15th episode!

The story is short. It could have had what.. 12 or just 10 episodes. Park Hyung sik from ‘Bong soon’ as ‘Min min’ is unique. After much hyped return, Shin hye also could not create the magic of ‘Heirs’ or ‘Memories of Alhambra’ .

Both the actors are adorable, my favorites. But they just couldn’t create the magic. The magic from the ffirst episodes got lost as the series progressed.

Taking up the theme of mental health was brave but as in ‘Daily Dose of Sunshine’ this also got heavy. The very crazy female lead from ‘It’s okay to not be okay’ made us believe in her. The story also dealt with mental issues. So many. Yet it could hold our interest till the end!

‘It’s okay, that’s love’ also had the Male lead with issues, but the story was strong. The acting wonderful. It made a good watch.

Here, I believe the issue is with the story. If the leads were given more character, it could’ve been one of the best of 2024. It just missed the mark.
