Seema Deo

She was an Indian Hindi & Marathi film actress. She has appeared in over 80 Hindi & Marathi films. We lost her on 24 August 2023 aged 81. She had married Ramesh Deo, her co-star in 1960. He died on 2 Feb, 2022. He was 93 then.

She has two children. Ajinkya Deo, an actor who has worked in many Hindi & Marathi films & Abhinay Deo, the elder son is a renowned filmmaker. His ‘Delhi Belly ‘won him Filmfare award for Best director.

She suffered from Alzheimer’s disease in the last years of her life.

Starting from ‘Miya Bibi Razi’ in 1960 with her role as Rajani, she won over the audiences by her simplicity. Her last appearance was ‘Jetaa’ in 2010 as Sumati Rajadhyaksha. Dressed simply, she would bring grace to her roles.

Songs played in her memory on that day started with ‘Visaru nako Shrirama mala’ from film Janaki made my day. The songs that followed took me in that era long lost. ‘Bai mi vikat ghetala Sham’ from ‘Jagachya Pathivar brought alive Raja Paranjpe with a blind girl by his side. Seema as the young, fresh girl.

‘Ya sukhano ya’, ‘Tula pahate re’, ‘Hridayi preet jagate’, ‘Jivalaga kadhi re yeshil tu’ from ‘Suvasini’, ‘Thandagaar hi hava’,’Hasale Aadhi kuni’, ‘Yenar Nath aata’, ‘Kal mi Raghunandan pahile’. It was a treat for my ears.

The real jewel was ‘ghan ghan mala nabhi datlya’ by Manna Dey. From the film ‘Vardakshina’ which has a young Ramesh Deo with Seema Deo, who marries him in the end!

She was very modest, simple & purity enshrined. No one else can replace her, today.
