Already having a title ‘Doctor’ for a Tamil film made in 2021, this film was named ‘Doctor G’. But it’s all good. The dilemma of the lone doctor in the gynecology department who wanted to be in orthopedics is addressed.
Released on 14 October 2022 made on a budget of 35 crores it has gained est. 41 crores already. Anubhuti Kashyap’s first venture turns out to be good. It opened ttto good reviews.
I will go with Shubhra Gupta of Indian Express who rates the film 2.5 out of five stars. She writes ‘Ayushmann Khurrana film is so busy earning its feminist cred that it forgets the show-more -tell -dictum, and never becomes the cracker it could have been.’ It is heartwarming at times, but such moments are few & far in between. It makes us desire for more perfection.
As the character of Dr Nandini says ‘ The best gynecologists in the country are all male’ She is right. You look up the list of the best doctors here & all of them are male! But a doctor first who looks after the patient. Losing the male touch & treating the patient an advice that carries weight.
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Shefali Shah, Sheeba Chaddha with others make up the team. The role is tailor-made for Ayushman but he can always do better than this.
Watchable? Yes.
