Paani..

‘Paani re paani tera rang kaisa, jisme milaye lage us jaisa…’ from ‘Shor’ gives us the very quality of water to give color. The festival of colors is impossible without water. It is Jeevan in Sanskrit, paani in Marathi. ‘Thoda sa rumani ho jaye’ has Nana Patekar talking of water that covers all. ‘Aur kabhi kabhi kue ke saath gayab ho jata hai..’ has the harsh reality.

Kala pani was the highest kind of punishment meated to the freedom fighters. Away from homeland & the vast expanse of the dark waters of Andaman. I wonder how it feels to look upon those waters. The cellular jail is the only remainder, but what does the atmosphere say? Needs to be seen. The islands today boast of clean, unadulterated beaches & hot destination for all.

The movie ‘Kala Pani’ had Dev Anand with the ever beautiful, Madhubala. A story of a youth who vows to bring back his father wrongly implicated in a crime. SD Burman’s music with tracks like..’Hum bekhudi mein tumko…’,’Acha Ji main haari chalo man jao na..’,’Nazar lagi raja tore bangle par…’ absolute gems!

“Pani pani re kale pani re…’ from ‘Maachis’ & picturised on Tabu. Written by Gulzar (I wonder if I have named all his films in various blogs! ) with Chandrachur Singh, Tabu, Om puri, Jimmy Shergil & others. ‘Chod aaye hum woh gaaliya…’, “Chappa chappa…” all have a visual impact.

Finally the most loved, “Choti Si kahani se barishon ke paani se saari vadi bhar gayi na jane kyun dil bhar gaya na jane kyun ankh bhar gayi…’ from ‘Ijazaat’. RD Burman & who else ,Gulzar have put their heart & soul in it.

The tears ie’ Aankhon ka paani’ has a special place. It is said that they may be happy or sad tears but they don’t fall unnecessarily. It needs a special occasion to cry. One of the most precious & worthy of the assets that humans have. Whichever gifts may be purchased or given, however expensive this is the most precious!’Kay tula vahu? mi.. Ekach ahe mazi daulat , nayani jo ha asru taragat, toch padi vahu? mi kay tula deu?’ the most natural & most expensive of the gifts!
