I wasn’t aware it is so rampant. In the Hindi film ‘Thappad’ when the protagonist , Taapsi Pannu , files a divorce, the lawyer asks her, ‘Is your husband cheating ?’ No. ‘Is he beating you?’ No. ‘Then why are you divorcing him? Just for a slap ?’ Yes. He shouldn’t have done that. She is firm.
Her husband was frustrated & slapped her in a party hosted by them. In her house, in front of all the guests!

Are we bringing up our boys wrong? They have careers, know what it is to survive in competition, but fail to treat their wives better. She is to be welcomed wholeheartedly. Instead I find criticism is more common!
I do find some ladies having total control of the household. But they fail to protect the new ones in their fold. By being a tyrant they have the right but they don’t use it where necessary.
