Madeleine Sophie Wickham (nee Townley, 12 December 1969 – 10 December 2025) was known by her pen name Sophie Kinsella. Specially known for her best selling ‘Shopaholic series of novels.
The first two novels in the series, ‘The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic’2000 & ‘Shopaholic Abroad’ 2001 were adapted into the film ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ 2009.
I have enjoyed her books. Light, romantic novels with a message. Humor, clean & clear.
Let me walk through our similarities. We share December as our birth month. She was born on the 12 th, I got married on 12th. She is the eldest of the three daughters. So am I, followed by two brothers.
Her parents were teachers. I have been a teacher for 33 years of my life. She studied in a Girls’ school, I was educated in a co ed English Medium School.
She published her first novel in 1995, I had been inducted as a teaching staff in college. She married in 1991, I married in 1990. Had my daughter in 1991& another in 1996. She had 4 sons & one daughter.
The difference? I am unknown & alive.
In 2022, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour. She revealed that in 2024.
She died just two days before her 56th birthday.
Simple, straightforward & sweet. She will be in our memories for ever.
