Sandhya

(nee Vijaya Deshmukh) was an Indian actress. Known for her various appearances in Hindi & Marathi language films directed by her husband V Shantaram.

Born in Kochi, 22 September 1932 died in Mumbai on 4 October 2025. at the age of 93. Her elder sister Vatsala Deshmukh born in 1930, died on 12 march 2022 at the age of 92. Both the sisters were actresses.

Vatsala had a daughter Ranjana Deshmukh. She was a leading star in Marathi cinema from late 70s to 80s. In 1087, she met with a car accident , her legs were paralyzed. She died of heart attack aged 45.

Sandhya married V Shantaram in 1956. They had no children. She was his third wife. She bonded with his children from earlier marriages.

Twice awarded for Best actress by Filmfare for ‘Pinjara’ & Chandanachi Choli Ang Ang Jali’.

In 2018, ‘Ani… Kashinath Ghanekar’ paid tribute to her iconic song ‘Tumhavar keli mi Marji Bahal’ from ‘Pinjara’. The film ranked as one of the highest grosserers of Marathi films in 2018.

Today the ‘evening’ is dark. We lost a unique hardworking actress. Adieu.
