Fashion

Reading about the review for the sequel to ‘Sex & the City’ by a renowned designer, I felt the clothes have come a long way. It defines identity. More than concealing they are meant to reveal.

Ritu Kumar came from Kolkatta to Delhi & chose to stay away from South Delhi. She bought a farm in Bijwasan. The doyen of Indian fashion & textile revivalist, who inspired many to choose this field & excel.

Much before ‘Made in India’ labels came forth she was already a fore runner. She has stores in Paris, London & New York in the 80s & the 90s before globalization & retail boom came to India.

She dressed royals like Princess Diana. She has immersed herself in ancient history of India. Making use of every opportunity & learning along the way she brought her ideas to the clothes she designed.

At 80, she is writing a book on reclaiming lost textile traditions that laid the template for Indian couture. Rinku Ghosh thinks she is the icon that India represents.

‘Fashion’ the Hindi movie had fashion as the central theme with the protagonist trying to find a foothold in the most competitive world of fashion. Priyanka Chopra & Kangana Ranaut at their best.

How we love them & hate the cut throat competition !
