The names like ‘Sona’ or ‘Sonya, Soniya are so common. After naming a child calling him ‘chintu;, pintu or babya is done.

The name ‘Soham’, Sohnam in India or Bhutan is common. So is the practice to marry a girl early. Is it only taking care of them young? Or because it helps to settle in the new household, better ??

Our Sonam , in the news recently, who is said to have murdered her husband with the help of her boyfriend, is one such girl. Her parents must have named her with so much love.

Happy to have their daughter help in his shop or work place her father doted on her. She also has a brother. But having a daughter is different. After completing her studies, basic education, she had feelings for a employee in their shop.

A younger man & different caste, the father disapproved & her name was put in a marriage bureau. A suitable boy was found & six months later they got married. Arranged marriages are common here, in India.

They went on a honeymoon in Assam. A few days later the body of the man was found. The girl had disappeared. Kidnapped, hurt or alive ? Nobody knew.

She had a phone call with her mother-in-law. She said she was keeping a fast. When the police enquired, both had their meals. Why did the girl lie?

She was constantly in touch with the boyfriend. Getting hold of them was easy. Police nabbed them. She is the main culprit. But what drove her to make a mistake of her life ? I don’t believe she is a cold blooded murderer or maybe she is ?

If she had firmly stood her ground & not married the man? If she had vowed to marry her boyfriend only, could an innocent man be saved ? If she had boldly told her future husband to reject her?

She had six months she should have made use of the time to break the alliance. Why could n’t she take a brave step & convince her family ??? Could n’t this tragedy be averted ???

Her story has so many ifs & buts. Branding & giving her the punishment is not the end of this story. We have to avert, abort any happenings that may take place in the future.

We don’t want any more Sonams ! Steps to make the mind , house, family, clutter free is important. Actions have reactions & the news is read , digested & imitated, that is detrimental.

Young minds need coaching, cleansing & clarity today. If we resort to barbarism, how can we be called civilized???
