She is an Indian actress & screen writer, who works in Hindi cinema. She started her career as an child artist. Roles in Films like Mahesh Kaul’s ‘Pyar Ki Pyas’. She was four to five years when she shot for films ‘Chirag Kahan Roshni Kahan’ & ‘Bombay Ka Chor’.
Three decades ago she wrote for ‘Lamhe’ 1991, ‘Darr’ 1993, ‘Koi Mil Gaya’2003,’Krrish 3’ 2006, each having a different genre.
She is the youngest of five siblings. Her sister Daisy, also a famous child artist. Paved her way into the industry. Because people knew the family but getting in was with a slap.
Dulal Guhaji was visiting. Talking with her mother, he removed his hat at some point. He was bald. Little Honey was playing in the hall. She said, ‘Mommy, he is bald!’ & got a tight slap. He laughed & asked her mother if he could cast her.
A small child speaking so clearly, he was impressed.
Irani met script writer & poet Javed Akhtar on the sets of ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’. They married in 1972. She is mother to Zoya & Farhan Akhtar. When the couple separated in 1978, the children were six & four respectively.
Both grew up to become successful film makers in the Hindi Film industry. His ‘Dil Chahata Hai’ & Zoya’s ‘Zindagi Na milegi Dobara’ are multi starrer hits.
Today she spends time in Coonoor, because it ‘s quiet. Bombay isn’t Bombay, she says. She laments that this generation hasn’t brought in anything new. They just write what they have seen on screen.
I ask my children also ‘why are you so afraid of emotions?’ It ‘s an important part of our lives. It ‘s not melodrama.
Her thoughts ring true. Are we all afraid to confront our thoughts, emotions. Do we block unpleasant thoughts??
