After finishing it finally, I was a bit disappointed by many characters being eliminated. At the beginning of the show, Xue Fangfei is being buried alive by her husband. Luckily she lives to take us on a interesting journey.
She comes to the Zhennu Hall with Jiang Li & her maid servant Tong’er. Jiang Li dies shortly, not able to withstand the repeated beatings.
Xue takes the new identity, Jiang Li & comes to the capital with Tong’er. Jiang Li’s mother is dead . Her step mother had framed Jiang Li for fratricide & exiled her. She has killed Jiang Li’s older cousin sister also.
Concubine Li, Ji Shuran’ s sister has also killed another consort for achieving this position.
Ji Shuran tries to trouble Jiang Li , first by poisoning her own daughter & by the Imperial Diviner, who is her ex-lover. He tries to remove the ghost (?) from Jiang Li’s body. It fails & instead people know of her cousin’s death.
Diviner tries an arrow ,then a sword & Tong ‘er is hit. She dies. Later Ji Shuran runs with the Diviner. He is injured & dies in her arms. She is in a bad shape. She loses it completely.
Shen Yurong, Xue Li ‘s husband who is in a relationship with the elder princess, Wan Ning finally kills her. She takes out a Hairpin he has presented her & kills herself in his presence.
Her twin Brother , Prince Chen wants to rebel & ascend the throne. He captures Consort Li but she kills herself. He moves with the rebellion but is killed by Duke Su. Prince Chen was responsible for Duke Su’s father’s death with 100 soldiers.
Xue Li uses her archery skill to hit Shen’s hand. The fish emblem falls & the army marches. She walks away after talking to him. He had hopes that she will come back to him! He climbs the rampart & jumps.
I remember when we were watching a few shows & had more family members around, we often discussed how this show will end.
The granny dies. The father is in shock. He dies. The mother is sad. She dies. The series ends. This would be our simple solution.
Here, so many died that I lost count. Interestingly, on another show, ‘Kill Me, Love Me’ I find the story exactly reversed. The rebellion is first. More fights & the hate between the leads.
A pavilion burns down. Trying to remove traces of wrong doings. The heroine being the same it really feels like a continuation.
But for Wang Xingyue!!
