Crown Prince , Lee Hwan, already under suspicion in the poisoning death of his older brother, receives a mysterious prophecy regarding his own death. He crosses paths with noblewoman Min Jae-yi, who is on the run after being framed for the murder of her family. They agree to help each other.
The last episode garnered 4.877 %, roughly around 5 % viewership. Rated at 8.1.
The 20 episodes can bring out every character well. I am at episode 6. The first episode brings the Crown Prince’s fear of death. A threatening letter. ‘To have hands but cannot use, to have feet but cannot walk….’ anybody would be scared.
The older brother dies by eating peaches given by Lee Hwan. In ‘Moonlovers…’ the elder brother dies giving the throne to his younger brother. The 4th Prince, Lee Joon-gi inherits the throne.
There was another show where the Prince grows in isolation. The parents leave him alone in the palace. It affects his personality.
Then ‘Captivating the King” he is a miserable king with nobody beside him. Here, Han Seong on’s father, the Left State Councillor tells him that the Prince is your childhood friend. But he does not trust you. He is well read & hence if he inherits the throne he will be a dangerous king!
A Prince needs to have his power curtailed. His ministers should support him. They should have some power. A group of people should support the King.
‘Rookie Historian Goo Hae ryung’ has a free spirited girl who runs away from marriage. Learns to be a historian. She has her brother’s support.
MIn Jae yi is engaged to marry Han Seong on. But her family members are killed by poisoning. She is framed & now on a run. She is determined to find the culprit. She clearly tells Lee Hwan that his friend is better looking than him!
Undeterred he says,’ This is a first!’ Now, how do we compare his handsomeness to any other ???
Her father does not like her wearing men’s clothes but she knows she can achieve much more if she wears men clothes!! How could she enter the palace in her noble woman’s clothing, the hanbok?
Kim Myung jin’s character is interesting. He studies clues & comes to the right conclusions! Jang Ga ram has it right. She knows he is great!! The family disapproves of him because he is not studying in Sungkyunkwan & his two brothers are!
His knowledge about physiology & anatomy is more than the rest. He appears to be carefree but his sharp brain is continuously working.
He easily finds the clues in the serial murders happening around. As a team they prevent the fourth death! Life. The new born & the mother are saved but Min Jae gets injured. Lee Hwan carries her himself. Not allowing his friend to touch her.
Their childhood meeting reminds one of ‘Queen for seven days’. Hope this has a better end.
It is a period drama. It also has ‘shaman’ & a curse’ just like ‘The Moon Embracing the Sun’, which hinges on the ‘shaman’s curse’!
In ‘Record of Youth’ because it is a record, it is left hanging. Hope this ‘youth’ is better.
