Closer home, a couple 78 & 76 year old , both retired headmasters, residing away from their children decided to end their lives. Next day the caretaker found them dead with a letter that stated nobody is to blame for our deaths.
Highly educated, who have imparted knowledge to the numerous students, took such a drastic step. It leads to a difficult question. Does old age make you helpless?
The joint family took care of the old, young, very young alike. Is our concept of freedom over estimated? Do we need a few constraints ???
Choosing the wrong partner, not having children, living away from the parents, have we paved way for more stress in our lives?? Was the old tradition of sacrifice & compromise more healthy for lives to co exist???
I remember having guests stay over or relatives coming over unannounced & staying for days together. Today nobody does that. Firstly, we don’t have the time. Second, we think why bother others? Let’s stay in a hotel.
Vacation is not visiting relatives but going on a travel or abroad to enjoy! ‘Back to Nature’ Yes. But the weakened bonds between two humans remain the same or weaken further. Reaching a point when we start not to care at all.
Because the entire society has been eroded of values, we cease to give it a thought. The picture is grim. If the society has abandoned the grey population, what next??
With new advances in the field of medicine, 60 is the new 40!! They have so much to give & live for. But regarded as a burden, what next???
I fail to understand how this picture can be corrected. Joint efforts are needed, seriously.
