It is a Japanese light novel series, written by Natsu Hyuga & illustrated by Touko Shino. The anime TV series is directed by Norihiro Naganuma (S1) Akinori Fudesaka (S2) Written by Norihiro Naganuma.
The series is set in an alternate reality of the Tang dynasty & follows a young female named Maomao. She is trained from an early age by her apothecary father. She was sold as a slave to the Emperor’s palace while she secretly employs her pharmacist skills at the service of the people of the palace.
The first season aired from Oct.2023 to March 2024. Second season premiered in Jan 2025.
The anime ranked sixth in Anime News Networks”Top ten Anime of 2024′ Caitlin Moore praised the series’ plot as well as Aoi Yuki’s voice acting.
In 2025, the anime received 13 nominations , including Anime of the Year at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
It is adjudged Daruma for Best Suspense Anime & Best TV Series Online.
Rightly so, I had decided to give it a miss, jumping on season 2 is not my cup of tea!1 But I ventured to watch & did not leave till it was bed time!!!

I knew Jinshi is more than an eunuch. His adoration for Maomao made me sure. I had watched a Chinese drama where Dylan Wang was projected as an eunuch. He takes some medicine to stop growing his beard .
Here, Jinshi is the emperor;s younger brother. But not everyone knows it. His facade saves him & being involved into the affairs of the consorts make him stronger. Maomao is his strong ally.
She doesn’t like him but helps him nevertheless.
I am enjoying their story !!
