It is based on a story by Ramu Sunil. In Malakkappara, Vivek rejoins as SHO & take charge of suicide case of Rajendran, who revealed details of a crime he had done years ago. The investigation leads to disappearance of a young girl from the filming locationof Bharathan’s Kathodu Kathoram.
Released on 9 January 2025. Made on a budget of Rs 6-9 crores, it garnered est. Rs. 57.30 crores.
Upon release it received positive reviews from critics & emerged as the top grossing Malayalam film of the year 2025, so far.
Anandu Suresh of ‘The Indian Express gave a rating of 3/5 stars. ‘Rekhachithram’ takes an intriguing approach by choosing the production period of a film , a seemingly less impactful event, as it’s historical touchpoint & John Manthrickal & Ramu Sunil , who penned the screen play, handle it well’.
Sajin Shrijith of ‘The Week’ rated it 3.5/5 stars. ‘Rekhachithram appeals to the hardcore cinephile just like all of us’.
When Vivek is on his trail of investigation, so are we. Every set back becomes ours. As the trail goes cold, we have the chills. We wonder who was that young lady ?? from the first frame it grips us. Till we find who she was !!!
