It is an Indian Hindi language action thriller film. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews. It stars Shahid Kapoor, Pooja Hegde & Pavail Gulati.
It is a remake of Andrrews’s own 2013 Malayalam film ‘Mumbai Police’ with a different climax. The film follows a violent cop who loses his memory in an accident & has to reinvestigate the murder of a fellow police officer.
Released on 31 January 2025. Netflix got the rights & it streamed from 28 March 2025.
Made on a budget of Rs 50-80 crores, it garnered est. Rs 51.58- 59 crores. It opened to mixed reviews from the critics. They praised Kapoor’s performance, cinematography & editing. Criticized the screenplay & climax. It had poor box office returns.
The film was extensively shot at Dongri Chamul, Mumbai. Three different climax scenes were filmed to keep the suspense around the ending of the film.
Shahid Kapoor sports a short hairstyle for his character, similar to his look in ‘Haider (2014).
Rotten Tomatoes gave a positive review with 5.3/10. ‘Hindustan Times’ Rishabh Suri bemoaned that despite compelling work by Kapoor, the film was let down by a ‘predictable story’ & ‘convoluted twists’.
Having changed the premise for the Hindi audience it loses some of the sheen. The success of the film , I believe would have been an honest portrayal. Trying to hide the sexual orientation of the protagonist or altering it made the story luke warm.
Also the language matters. Some of the nuances get buried or lost in translation. It could have been better.
