It is an American comedy film. Directed by Tyler Spindel. Written by Julie Paiva & Amy Schumer. Starring Schumer alongside Jillian Bell, Brianne Howey & Will Forte.
It tells the story of a 40 something school teacher Lainy , who gets envious when her life long best friend & colleague Kate gets pregnant. Also another co -worker gets pregnant leading her to steal a fake pregnancy belly to pretend to be pregnant.
Released on Feb. 5 2025. It received negative reviews from the critics.
Principal photography took place in Brooklyn, New York.
Rotten Tomatoes gave it 4.2/10. ‘Fitfully amusing & earnest without ever finding a comedic groove’. Natalia Winkelman of The New York Times argued that the female characters personal troubles detract from the movie’s comedic moments& felt their relationships were lack luster & underdeveloped .
I thought the premise interesting. But it falls short of being entertaining. Having Schumer as the central figure was fine. Her relationships have little time to be developed.
Right from the start the children playing moms, the words they use … give us creeps. Some words, secrets known to all need not be uttered in public.
Going overboard on OTT is common but this crossed quite a few lines. If an Asian director was to direct this flick, it would have been softer & a few notches down , with the reality.
In the coffee shop she wants Shirley to see her talking with a man. She broke with her boyfriend & is prickly. She introduces the man as ‘Latte’ he plays along. An unknown man! His bemused expression & their exchange was good.
But such pure humor was very scanty & little.
The final scene reminded me of ‘The Accidental Husband’ when Patrick comes with a fire extinguisher truck to the church & meets Emma! Here, it is the Zamboni that Josh is driving.
Tempered down it could have been a good film.
