It is an Indian Hindi language historical biographical film. Directed & co -Produced by Kangana Ranaut. It is based on a screen play by Ritesh Shah & story written by Ranaut.
Based on Indian Emergency, it stars Ranaut as former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman & others complete the cast.
It released on 17 January 2025. Made on a budget of Rs 60 crores it garnered Rs 21.75 -22 crores. It got mixed to negative reviews from the film critics. It bombed at the box office.
It has been banned in Bangladesh due to political tensions between India & Bangladesh.
Deven Sharma of Film fare gave it a 3/5 stars . ‘The film is well directed by Kangana, who thanks to great make up & prosthetics looks exactly like Indira Gandhi in the first frame. But later looks like herself.
Several theatres in Punjab chose not to screen the film. It faced protests in United Kingdom, by Sikh groups.
She has tried her best. In spite of the delays & the protests she maintained her stand. The film got released. It tries to show the events. Without taking any sides, it states facts.
From choosing the child artists to the punches landed by her dialogues, it is entertaining. It is a better film than her earlier. She is trying & that is what makes her great. From ‘Queen’ she has never looked back.
She goes her way. The backlash notwithstanding. Am I in her admirer club? Maybe.
