Dark Circles Tell Stories

Moumita Alam’s article is catchy & informative. She states that a survey shows women sleep far less than men. The reasons are not hard to discern.

When did you last sleep well? People ask me when I have dark circles under my eyes. These dark circles never go away because I never sleep well. How can I? When I am a working woman who is a single parent- the primary caregiver to my daughter- I suffer from time-poverty. Aren’t we all in the same boat?? All of us very poor.

I don’t have time to eat properly or to sleep properly. I have to work all the time. I remember when I would return back home & wish all my work done at home, miraculously! Of course, I had to slog at home to keep it tidy.

As a person living in a semi-urban area , neither do I earn enough to avail a 24/7 household help nor do I have professional day care facilities near my work place. But if you leave, you start again after a gap. Others have made a head away.

Having a crèche near by is a distant dream. The woman has to constantly struggle with her conscious. I am not even referring to her physical state. The weakness or the feeding stage as such. Why more people are for no marriage or no kid is understandable. But these conditions are a phase in life . We need to over come it.

After the drudgery of a long day at work, the word ’empowerment; seems like a myth! But have n’t we with our ambitions summoned the odds! Who said you have to get the best education & then go out for a job / career to put it to use??

We call that ‘Aa bail mujhe maar’ come & hit me, O Bull!’ Really. No Bull, this. We have made our own choices & taken a hard path. Our sufferings pave the way for a better future.
