Knight Flower

Around the tenth episode, the drama is poised to unravel all the mysteries. The take is slow, because little happens in the life of the widow. Yet reappearance of her dead husband in the seventh episode was or is a nice touch.

She has fallen for the dashing Park Su ho by then. Quite understandable. Not stepping out of the house in broad daylight without a companion, wearing mourning clothes & not to be seen in public.

The widows earlier in India had to wear saffron ( alwan) & shave their heads. At all times cover the head with the paloo of the sari. It was plain with no design. She had to be as unattractive as possible.

Later they started wearing whites. Not called for social gatherings & eat less or fast. Refrain from eating goodies. Spend time chanting or meditating . Performing puja, singing bhajans.

All this may appear almost like a fairy tale, un believable but really happened. Gradually with exposure, education, empowerment women started getting liberated. But the mind set remains.

A single lady has to face more hardship than a married one. Anywhere & everywhere in the world. Take out any Sydney Sheldon or Danielle Steele , the evidence is your hands. The literature by Mahadevi Varma has so many anecdotes.

The Knight Flower was able to soar high from 7.9% to 18.4% by the last episode. In 2024, Lee Hanee won the Best actress at Baeksang Arts award. Lee Jong won was also nominated for Best actor.

The story is based on a webtoon & captured so well on screen. A fantasy that is relatable.
