It is a docu drama that depicts the trials & triumphs of Bollywood’s iconic Roshan family musician Roshan Lal Nagrath, His sons, Rajesh & Rakesh. His grandson Hrithik.

Rated at 7.4. All of 4 episode. The first titled ‘Rahe Na Rahe Hum’ is devoted to the great musician Roshan Lal Nagrath. All his old goldies take us on a nostalgic times of the evergreen films. Second titled ‘Thoda Hai, Thode ki jarurat hai’ speaks of the musician Rajesh Roshan. His music score in films like ‘Kunwara Baap’ or ‘Julie’ are unforgettable. ‘My heart’s beating..’ We had never heard of English song’ in a Hindi movie!’. A first for the audiences. The off beat themes made them unique & the songs elevated them to dizzy heights.
What happens is we start expecting too much! He admits he never went in search of work. But worked diligently for the Producer who approached him. “Swami’, ‘Priyatama’, ‘Zindagi”Doosra Aadmi’, ‘Desh Pardes’ followed.
Once Dev sahab was convinced there was no looking back. Mr Natwarlal’ had a song sung by Amitabh Bachchan. ‘Mere paas aao mere dosto, ek kissa suno’ was lyrical. ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Papa Kehte hai’ had ‘Ghar se nikalte hi, kuch door chalte hi’ he believed in the best!
The third episode has Rakesh Roshan. He started with Ghar Ghar ki Kahani’ 1970. Appearing in almost 84 films throughout 1970s & 1980s. Mostly known for his supporting roles in big budget films.
His fame for directing films with titles beginning with letter ‘K’ since 1987 saw phenomenal rise. ‘Khudgarz’1987, ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ revenge drama 1988, action comedy ‘ Kishen Kanhaiya’ 1990 with Madhuri Dixit & Anil Kapur. As his wife Pinkie says ‘he spares no expense & has to do what he has dreamy. No compromise’.
He launched the musical romantic thriller ‘Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai (2000) with his son. It was a super duper hit. I remember going to the theatres & was shocked to see the crowds. Small children were accompanied by their parents! It was not a children’s movie! But the music & the songs were fantastic.
‘Koi Mil Gaya’ 2003 the science fiction film with ‘Jaadu’ trans. magic! Then ‘Krrish’ (2006) , a sequel to ‘Koi… Mil Gaya’ Hritik takes the persona of the super hero Krrish to thwart the plans of the evil scientist Dr Siddhant Arya.
A sensitive actor & a sensational director himself, he was successful in introducing his son in his own movies.
The fourth & final segment is ‘Koi.. Mil Gaya’. Hritik Roshan , a superstar was born when the industry was ruled by the three Khans. Bollywood got it’s own Greek God. A dancing sensation. As Madhuri Dixit said, ‘a poetry in motion’.
His choreographer admits, she had given him difficult steps but he mastered them. His actions have that effortless feel about them. Goes to show how much he must have practiced to perfection. Watch ‘Senorita..’ from ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.
Tiger Shroff says he has so much to learn from him. With both of them on screen in ‘War’ we had a visual treat.
Hritik was a frail, shy boy. But he had determination & a role model in his father . Rakesh Roshan at 75 has the same enthusiasm & drive for life. Hritik turned 51 recently. So his debut film at 26 , ‘Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai’ is 25 years old!
Wow, I can still see the cheery crowd clapping & enjoying the film. Till his latest ‘Fighter’ 2024 with Deepika Padukone, he remains the same. One of the highest paid actors, with six Film Fare Awards.
