It is an American fantasy romantic comedy film. Directed by Janeen Damian. Written by Kirsten Hansen. Starring Lindsey Lohan, Ed Speleers, Alexander Viahos, Ayesha Curry, Elizabeth Tan& Jane Seymour.
It is Lohan’s second consecutive project with Netflix, Damien & Damien’s husband Michael Damien, who served as a producer on the film alongside Brad Krevoy.
Hansen said the story was originally set in Italy under the working title “European Wedding” with her first draft. The Irish locales are to die for. We are lucky the plot got shifted to Ireland.
Irish locations featured in the film, namely Lough Tay, saw significant increase in online searches with a Tourism Ireland rep stating they appreciated the country’s depiction in it.
The plot follows Maddie Kelly , a book editor whose dream man is days away from marrying her best friend in Ireland. A spontaneous wish made on an ancient stone magically alters her fate & turns her into the bride.
The film was released on 15 March, 2024. It debuted at number one on Netflix’s most watched films list the day after it’s release.
The film received mixed reviews from the critics but Lohan’s performance & chemistry with Speleers were praised.
Damien said the film ‘takes place in Summer, it’s a love letter to Ireland. It’s a ‘be careful what you wish for’ story. Sometimes you may not get what you want but you get what you need’. This is the film’s message.
Rotten Tomatoes gave a 4.1 /10. “With Lindsay Lohan in the lead, it almost doesn’t matter that Irish Wish is a scattered collection of rom-com clichés” Time critic observes, ‘there is something both appealing & touching about this performance’, considering that she ‘could probably deliver more than Irish Wish asks of her’.
Well said. We keep on expecting more of her. We know she is so capable.
