Romance in the House

It is a 2024 South Korean Series. Literal meaning: Family X Melo. It stars Ji Jin hee, Kim Ji -soo, Son Na eun, Choi Min ho.

After finishing the 12 episodes, it is well written & ends well. But being slow paced, it saw a dip in the viewership after the fourth episode. Averaging at 4.109 % Nationwide & 4.006 % in Seoul.

The parents, Ji Jin hee & Kim Ji Soo , are naturals. Kim Ji Soo is so pretty. She has done her so well. We believe her to be a model, middle aged at that, for the beauty products. She spear heads her family in the absence of her husband. Taking care, educating two kids is never easy.

She maintains her poise & also has good friends in the neighborhood. The ladies have a rare comradeship. Handling their husbands & their whims, also supporting their friends in need.

Without any real miracles here, the routine life of individuals has so many surprises. The two children, Son Na eun, the talented, hardworking girl has earned for the family. A pillar of support to her family, mother & brother, in her father’s absence.

The son, Yoon San-ha, wants to earn well & fast. He wants to start a business & become rich like his dad. The final episode focuses on him. He was young when his father left. He laments nobody told him what was going on. In an effort to protect him, details were not divulged.

This happens in a family. The youngest are spared. But their views are never expressed. They have no say in the matter. When the three of them start to argue about what is good for him, he barges in to say , ‘Don’t I get to say anything?’ The family thinks they are planning for his good, but what is really good for him ??

Also the daughter’s boyfriend, Choi Min ho, is an athlete. He has his own academy where he teaches taekwondo to young children. His father is the CEO of a large firm. But he is not interested. After his internship he refuses to work with his father & values independence.

Jung Woong-in as Nam Chiyeol, the CEO , has a funny streak in his character. He takes his son’s refusal calmly. I have seen him earlier always as a Baddie. But here he has excelled himself. In “I hear Your Voice’ he is the villain, so this was a welcome change.

Without giving un -necessary footage to any one character, the drama seamlessly moves ahead, slowly.

Entertaining.
