It is a 2013 South Korean drama film. Also known as ‘Brother & Ugly Duckling’ or ‘The Ugly Duckling’. Directed by Shin Hyun Soo. Screenwriter is Choi Ha Nee. It stars Lee Si Eon, Jung Ji So, Moon Hee Kyung, Oh San Ha with others.
Eun Guk & Eun Soo are siblings living alone after their father passed away. Eun Guk works at the post office. He feels like he is getting old, because of his sister’s behaviour. Skipping school to attend an audition.
Eun Soo thinks her life is weary though she is only ten years old. She thinks, because of her brother she cannot pursue her dream of becoming a singer. She decides to go her mom in Seoul.
This story is a very different take from the siblings in ‘Grave of the Fireflies’. The sister here, is a pre teen & rebellious. Also she is not his real sister. She comes to know & then understands how much he cares for her.
She is no ‘ugly duckling’ as labelled. But she is because she is not from the brood! She is different.
A good film.
