Korean lit. Chilling Romance’, also known as ‘My Girlfriend Can see Ghosts’. It is a 2011 South Korean horror romantic comedy film. It stars Son Ye jin & Lee Min ki.
It is about a magician who falls in love with a woman who can see ghosts. It was written & directed by Hwang In ho , it also marks his directorial debut.
It received a million admissions after two weeks. It is the 7th top grossing Korean film of 2011 & the most successful Korean romantic comedy in recent years.
Both the stars are young. They have a freshness. The ghosts add spice. They decide to break up. She plans to go to Oslo but the plane meets with bad weather & flies back.
He is scared of ghosts but he can’t leave her. His love is strong enough to over come.
A Philippine adaptation came out in Feb, 2023.
I have not watched ‘Sound of Magic’ to compare the two magicians. But ghosts have been many. ‘Bring it on Ghost’ 2016 drama with Kim So hyun & Ok Taec -yeon, ‘Goblin’ has some. ‘Oh, My Ghost’ withPark Bo young & Jo Jung suk, ‘A Korean Odyssey’ with Lee Seung Gi & Oh Yeon seo.
Ghosts here are scary. But the director has handled them well. He combines the genres so well.
Worth Watching.
