Another article in ‘Indian Express’ expressed views pf Nayana Motamma. The curious case of Prajwal Revanna reveals the failings of a powerful man. Coming from a well known family, grandson of a former Prime minister of India & himself a Member of the Parliament, how could he stoop so low?
His name is fiery, he is expected to instill confidence in people around him. Yet, he has disappointed all around him. Nayana writes, India is facing one of the biggest sexual abuse cases in recent times. She went through some of the videos & was horrified.
Prajwal used his political position & influential family background to allegedly lure some of the women & in some cases Coerce them. He was elected to make lives of the public better. If allegations that he himself recorded these videos are correct, he is guilty of a double violation.
He has fled the country & his family have distanced themselves from him. But they are not addressing the real issue. The ‘elephant in the room’ is not being addressed by the higher authorities.
Herself , a Congress MLA from the same state, Karnataka, she has been there for long. She is aware of the ground reality. Looking beyond any party politics she has urged to be more careful. She wants all elected members to protect the fundamental right of women in this country.
Why the former wrestling head still remains unpunished is a question. So many women protested against him, yet he remains unmoved. She also wishes that the women of Sandeshkhali get justice.
Years later when he may come back or is arrested, the back story will be so old that public would have lost interest. Justice delayed is justice denied.
The women will have ‘moved on’ with their lives & who would like to look back at a horrible past? It would just be a leaf in the 2024 diary of a lawyer!
