My Unfamiliar Family

Tracing their steps through the 16 episodes is a journey in itself. They come across not as someone in drama but real living characters. Their learning arch becomes ours. They go through the growing pangs with us.

Very unassuming, a hidden gem indeed. This is a 2020 drama where Jung Jin young takes up the role of the father in the Kim family. Watching the 2024 drama ‘Queen of Tears’ where he is father of the main female lead Hong Hae in.

From being a possessive father to a sick, old father he has shown all the shades so well. So has Won Mi kyung, who is the mother of three children. She marries Mr Kim when she is pregnant with her first child.

As we go along, so many secrets are revealed. It is interesting to watch how the family reacts to it. Every member has a unique way of reaction. Chu Ja hyun as the eldest daughter is beautiful, poised & confident. She had a special appearance in ‘Misty’ & in ‘Little Women’ but here, being the eldest she has more footage.

Han Ye ri has the most delicious role. She has excelled in every expression. After ‘Hello, My twenties!’ 1 & 2 she has come a long way. A cameo in ‘Doom at your Service’ was just a blink & go.

With her younger brother, Ji woo & with her friend Chan hyuk, she glitters. Literally. The ease of the actor can reveal so much about the character. She has this slow burn romance which thaws in the end. But without being carried away, it is handled nicely. with care.

Her involvement with her boyfriend of 9 years which ends badly, scars her for years. She doesn’t meet with Chan hyuk because he was the room partner. Formerly, why she ended her friend ship so abruptly isn’t so clear.

Her relationship with the vice CEO briefly was also un-necessary. But real for her ,to go through the pain. Settling with Chan hyuk which we ,being so smart , have got wind of it much earlier.

How misunderstandings set in & entire lives are dominated by negative thoughts! Life times can be ruined.

Looking at the turn of events , nothing very drastic, helps to build bridges & comfort each other which they had forgotten.

On the way it teaches us a thing or two, without any lecture. Interesting.
