It literally means ‘( I don’t know much but) We Are Family. It is a 2020 South Korean TV series. It stars Jung Jin young, Won Mi kyung, Choo Ja hyun, Han Ye ri, Shin Jae ha & Kim Ji seok. Directed by Kwon Young Il.
The viewership started with over 3% and the 16th episode it reached around 6%. Averaging to 4.178% one can say did much better than many dramas.
The story revolves around the parents & their three siblings. A truck driver who dotes on his family but gradually his wife has drifted apart. She wants to graduate from the marriage. Selling the house & sharing the amount by both.
The children are adults & can take care of themselves. The eldest daughter is married to a doctor. The middle one Han Ye ri too much happening around her to handle. The youngest son is just having a steady job.
It has shades of ‘The familiar Wife’, ‘My father is strange’, also ‘Once again’ . But the fall in the mountain makes the father lose his memory. He says he is 22 years old! Again memory loss is not new.
The drama takes a turn when he asks his wife if his eldest knows he is n’t her biological father. Again no surprises here. We have seen too many dramas. But how they go about it will be interesting. All this happened in the first two episodes! Running time is 70 minutes. So a lot of ground gets covered.
Jung Jin young & Won Mi kyung are the parents. Choo Ja hyun is the eldest. I had started watching ‘Arthdal Chronicles ‘ where she is Asa Hon. But the getup & story demands that they look different. So, I felt as if I am watching her for the first time. Confident, charming wife to Doctor Yoon.
Now, Kim Tae hoon is a welknown face. His recent outing as Noh Seok min in ‘My Demon’ 2023 cannot be forgotten easily. Tenacious, evil & ambitious to the core. His best appearance was ‘Navillera’ 2021 again with Song Kang as his coach Ki Seung joo. You wish you had one like him!
Han Ye ri as Kim Eun hee. She has a colourful personality. Whatever she does is with full vigour. She has experienced a lean patch of five years without dating. But she has a steady friend in Kim Ji seok. How we wish she knows!
I kept on wondering why she looked so familiar, then I saw she was in ‘Hello, My Twenties’ 1 & 2. Also she had the best role with Yoon Park. Recently, watching ‘Doctor Slump’ I recalled how good he had been as a suitor to Han Ye ri.
Greatest surprise is Shin Jae ha. He is the youngest. Bossed around by all. A cute boy from ‘Prison Playbook’ 2017 -18, ‘Hymn of Death’ 2018, ‘Memories of Alhambra’ 2018. But after ‘Crash Course in Romance’ 2023 as Ji Dong hee , he became a house hold name. His role was just finished off with him taking a dive from the rooftop.
From Kim Ji woo to Ji Dong hee with his hair style he has changed , within a span of 3 years! Unbelievable.
Without boasting of any great names, the drama is good. Bonds within the family, how the family reacts to a crisis & how the odds are over come, eventually.
