English : The Crucible’is a 2011 South Korean crime drama film. It is based on the novel ‘The Crucible’ by Gong Ji young. Directed by Hwang Dong hyuk . It stars Gong Yoo & Jung Yu mi.

Kang In ho is the newly appointed art teacher at a school for deaf children in the fictional city of Mujin, North Jeolla Province. When he gets close to the children, he faces the shocking & ugly truth about the school. The students have been secretly enduring physical & sexual abuse by the teachers & administration.

He tries to fight for the children with the help of human rights activist Seo Yoo jin , but they are silenced by the corrupt system.

It isbased on events that took place at Gwangju Inhwa School for the deaf. Young children were victims of repeated sexual assaults by faculty members over five years in the early 2000s.

The film sparked public outrage upon it’s Sept. release, it resulted in a reopening of the investigations into the incidents. The school was finally closed in 2011. 4 million people having watched the film, demand for legislative reform reached it’s way to National Assembly of South Korea. a revised bill, dubbed the Dogani Bill, was passed in Late October 2011 to abolish the statute of limitations for sex crimes against minors & disabled people.

It won the Best film award with Audience award for the director of the film. Along with the Best music for the film. Many nominations but did not convert into an award. A true teamwork.
