Coffee Prince

Re-visiting the opening episodes of the popular drama, gave me another insight into the relationships there. The tomboyish Eun chan delivers food to Han gyeol. Fresh from his shower he is wiping his feet with a towel. With the delivery boy he is not embarrassed that he is half naked. ( Later, he knows & is totally embarrassed!)

Being the main money earner, Eun chan’s slim frame is burdened with work. She has no time for herself. When she watches Han gyeol lazing around, she envies him. They meet when the pick pocket snatches his friend’s purse. Eun chan pursues & gets it.

She realizes his tone is different with her, asking ‘Are you Hurt?’ aren’t just words. She knows his normal tone. He is unable to let her go. He knows his cousin loves her. But as he says, ‘She is a habit. A bad habit. Like drinking water in the morning’.

Eun chan is falling for him. We know. When she gets upset & also when she is scolded for ordering the 20 kg coffee bean bags. In front of the girl!! Who is adored for being an artist & working hard on the mural on the wall.

I liked Eun chan when she asks her to go for him. Instead of having coffee with her. It was so natural. She wanted to be alone! It all happened because of getting an apology from her offender.

I liked her personality. She means business. Money, yes But she also has her pride. She cannot let her parents be abused. She knows she can get money from Han gyeol but she makes sure he says ‘sorry’ with sincerity. In a world where you let go, nobody takes you seriously.

Her relation with ‘Sweeper’s dad’ is unique. No wonder then he falls for her. Knowing he has a steady girlfriend, Eun chan is like a breeze in his life. We see him smiling more in her company. She says , ‘I feel comfortable with you!’ but he feels the same. With Han gyeol her emotions are in a turmoil.

Han Yoo joo, Han sung’s girlfriend is an excellent artist with a volatile personality. She does exactly as she wishes. She cares about only her own feelings. She is best when she is with Han sung. But it will be a bold statement to say he can handle her. Because nobody can.

Rarely has any drama inter twined two couples in this way. We start rooting for one character & suddenly the other one needs us more. We know who is going to end up with whom. No guesses. But the process is exhausting. Still is. After, I don’t know how many runs later!

It is modern, confusing & entertaining for ages to come! ‘The Prince’ lives on.
