Coming to the 16th episode & finding that this is really going to leave a void… What can I do to fill it up? I came to a beautiful review which has covered all the points so nicely. Kudos to the entire team.
By Blogpastor (blogging since 2004). My Mister ( My Ajusshi) : a review & reflection is written on 21 May 2018. I have never written a reflection about a Korean drama series. My Mister will be the first because it depicts a painful process, that of a progression from being trapped & lifeless to being a free & breathing human being. Wow.
Simply put. It covers everything that one would wish to say. This drama is a breed apart. It has none of the usual elements. The viewers will find qualities they can identify with : the brokenness & fragility of the characters & their relationships. The sourness & hollowness of life, the burden of living up to everybody’s expectations. This is very real & akin to our spiritual journey.
As the lighting & the colour of their clothes changes, there are rare smiles that adorn their faces by the end of the series. The relationships between the supporting characters also change.
The moneylender & his friend have a hard time in the end. They fight & run with the stolen goods. Their hideout, the office is raided. More than the recordings what we have is justice.
Park Hae joon in the monk’s role & Oh Na ra who had dated him in the past are close to Dong hoon. Towards the end he helps them confront each other. It is so delicately handled. Avoiding the people, the street in Seoul was never the answer. When he says, ‘It is only one & a half hours away, but it took 20 years for me’. It says all.
Soccer provides the much needed relief to their minds. When Lee Ji an ‘s granny dies, the black suited men play soccer outside the funeral house.
The OST being one of the finest, adds to the atmosphere. A masterpiece.
