My Mister

It is a 2018 South Korean TV series . It stars Lee Sun-kyun & Lee Ji-eun. The series was directed by Park Hae young.

It received critical acclaim & won Best Drama at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.

In May 2023, Youku announced plans to a Chinese remake called ‘Loving Strangers”.

It tells the story of an impoverished & debt laden young woman struggling to stay afloat as she nurses her deaf, sick grandmother & working a temporary job. She develops an unlikely bond with one of her equally miserable supervisors. He is subjected to scrutiny, manipulation by his colleagues, friends & a dysfunctional family.

The first episode shows her enduring violence from a loan shark. Her spunk gets her more beating. I wonder if it is dating violence as thought earlier. She provokes him by saying, ‘Do you like me ?’ In other words, I thought, is this your way of showing love? He knew she is debt ridden. He has better choices. I mean easier ones. Why would he fall for a dirt poor girl?

I had seen IU before in ‘Moon lovers : Scarlet Heart Ryeo’ (we are waiting for season 2)’Dream High’, ‘Producers’ & “Persona’. I know she can look very pretty. Yet she has managed to look like she lives in a run down house with her sick grandma.

Recently I have also seen her in ‘Dream’ 2023 with Park Seo joon. As Lee So min , she has very little to do. Again, two people whose careers have been flagging come together. Main focus does not shift from the football team. Only we expected more of them.

The promotional poster is the best. The drama isn’t. It makes you face reality. Our leads have so many problems in life. Wish we could go there & sort out for them.
