Aaoge Jab tum

The song from the Hindi film ‘Jab We Met’ is a classical song. Sung by the late Ustad Rashid Khan. He died recently at the age of 55. The atmosphere of the song & the lyrics have made it a classic!

Aaoge jab tum o Saajana, Angana phool khilenge

When you come, the flowers will bloom in the courtyard. Aangan is the open area in front of the house. Old houses had it. Today’s houses have very little ‘openness’!

Barasega sawan , jhum jhumke… The rains will follow …. The rains arriving symbolizes the coming spring. The new shoots coming up. Greenery all over.

Do dil aise milenge, Aaoge jab tum O Saajana…

The two hearts will meet. It is never two people being one or the meeting being important. It is always the hearts beating as one.

Naina tere kajarare hai, Nainon pe hum dil haare hai…. The kohl eyes have taken my heart away. I have lost myself in those eyes.

Anjane hi tere nainon ne, vaade kiye kai sare hai… your eyes are innocent, they have made many promises…

Then comes the most beautiful line of the entire song….. Sanson kii lei maddham chalen tose kahe … the breathing becomes slow, it says… the Urdu words used have a profound meaning. It cannot be captured in an English word. Poetry is from the heart & it cannot be described as such.

Barsega sawan jhum jhumke…

chanda ko taakun raaton mein, he zindagi tere haathon mein… staring at the moon at night, my life is in your hands.. with nothing to do but wait & looking up at the stars… bewitching.

Pulkon pe zhilmil taaren hai, aana bhari barsaaton mein… with stars on my eyelids… come when it’s raining hard. The stars are not real. The eyes are full of tears, they are like the stars… When it’s raining hard, it will be easy to hide the tears. It’s water all over…

Sapanom ka jahaan, hoga khila khilaa… a world full of dreams… blooming all over… Barasega sawan jhum jhumke… do dil aaise milenge…

Writers Faauz Anwar, Sandesh Sandilya. What can I say about them? Great. Wow. They have given us a dream.
