It is a 2010 South Korean TV series starring Gong Hyo jin, Lee Sun kyun, Lee Hanee & Alex Chu. This workplace romantic comedy is about the dreams & struggles of a young woman who aspires to become an elite chef.
It premiered in Korea on Jan 4, 2010. The ratings then were 13 % which went on till 20%. For the final episode it recorded 21.5 & 21.2 %.
The show received positive feedback from viewers with it’s well-balanced combination of a good script, directing & acting.
In 2010, Gong Hyo jin won the Top excellence award, actress with CETV ‘Top 10 Asian stars with Lee Sun kyun & also couple award with Lee Sun kyun.
“The Perfect Match” , a 2017 Taiwanese comedy series is much the same. But the ratings were not great. Wu Kang jen & Ivy Shao make a lovely pair. Being one of my first shows that I watched, I cannot forget it.
Lee Sun -kyun is best known for his role in ‘Parasite’ (2019). After watching him in ‘Coffee Prince’ (2007) which brought him mainstream popularity, I tried to compare him with his other role. Easy going cousin of Gong Yoo, in ‘Coffee Prince’ & a pillar of support to the gullible Yoon Eun hye.
He was no Gong Yoo. But his loose limbed movements, innocent smile & soft speech made him unforgettable. We get bewitched by Gong’s persona but Lee was just your neighborhood friend! He was nominated for his role but did not win. But won many a hearts, then.
On Dec 27, 2023 Lee died of carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 48. At the time of his death , Lee had been investigated for alleged drug consumption. A huge loss.
