It is a 2023 Indian Hindi language action thriller film. Co written & directed by Atlee in his Hindi film debut. Produced by Gauri Khan & Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment.

The film stars Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role as father & son who team up to rectify corruption in society . Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone ( in a special appearance ), Priyamani & Sanya Malhotra appear in supporting roles.

Made on a budget of Rs 300 crores , it garnered est. Rs 1, 148 crores. A smash hit of today! It overtook Khan’s previous release Pathaan (2003). It emerged as the highest grossing Indian film of 2023. The second highest grossing Hindi film & fifth highest grossing Indian film.

It was screened at the Himalayan Film Festival in Leh on Sept, 2023.

On ‘Rotten Tomatoes ‘ 90 % of 31 critics’ reviews are positive with an average of 7.6 / 10. ‘Packed with plot twists & breathtaking action , ‘Jawan ‘ manages it’s convoluted plot & imposing length with high- octane panache’.

Shubhra Gupta of ‘The Indian Express’ gave it 3.5 /5 stars & wrote that the film delivered a timely political message despite ‘fashioned as an unabashed massy entertainer’.

I remember disheartened in the beginning & wondering why it grossed the highest! But as I plunged into it, the stellar performance by Deepika or the five ladies just like ‘Charlie’s Angels’ all got under my skin. Then I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Being a former Shahrukh Khan fan helped. After a long time ‘a masala film’ worth enjoying.
