It is a 2015 Indian Hindi language film. Directed by Shoojit Sircar. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan, Deepika Padukone with Moushumi Chatterji & Jisshu sengupta. The script was written by Juhi Chaturvedi.
Made on a budget of 42 crores, it made 141 crores at the boxoffice. A commercial hit all over, it received 8 nominations & won five of them. Best film, Best director, Best actor, Best actress. Bachchan won his fourth National film award for best actor & third filmfare award for Best Actor (critics) for his performance.
The film is loosely based on the 1980 Bengali language short film, ‘Pikoo’ by Satyajit Ray.
A road trip to Kolkata brings Piku, an Architect, closer to her nagging father Bhaskor Banerjee despite their disparate ideologies & fights over trivial matters. The father daughter duo is worth looking forward to. The car/taxi owner, Rana, takes them himself, as his drivers have had enough.
Re-visiting the film again was a delight, again. Repetition only brings a greater joy. The constipation, the chair atop the taxi, four people in the car makes it a memorable ride.
With Amitabh & Deepika hogging the limelight, we cannot but root for Irrfan at his best. So casual! Nobody can bring out the simplicity as he does!
Kudos to the entire team for giving us a lovely experience! ‘Piku’ anyday.
