It is a 2022 American comedy drama film. Directed by Marc Forster from a screenplay by David Magee. It stars Tom Hanks in the title role with Mariana Trevino, Rachel Keller & Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in supporting roles.
It is a remake of the 2015 Swedish film ‘A Man called Ove’ which was based on the 2012 novel by Fredrik Backman.
Made on a budget of $50 million it garnered $ 112.6 million at the box office. The film received generally favourable reviews from the critics.
The story is about a bitter old man reluctantly getting involved in the lives of his neighbours. It is a Tom Hanks movie all the way. From the first scene where he is chosing a rope to hang himself till the end. ‘To hang’? You read it right. He is thinking of killing himself. With the death of his wife, he has lost his will to live.
Allhis attempts fail & he ends up helping so many people. It is a real tearjerker at times. Why would anyone call it a ‘comedy’!
Audiences polled gave the film an average grade of ‘A’ while Postrak gave an overall score of 93% with 76% saying they would definitely recommend it.
A serious, good film.
