It is a 2023 Indian Hindi language legal drama film. Written & directed by Ashima Chibber. It stars Rani Mukerji, Anirban Bhattacharya, Neena Gupta & Jim Sarbh.
The film is inspired by a real life story of an Indian couple whose children were taken away by Norwegian authorities in 2011.
It is the first Indian film to be shot in Estonia. Inspired by the real story of Sagarika Chakraborty & her husband living in Norway.
The critics have lauded the superb performance by Rani. The film is gripping & not a light watch. By the end it feels a bit stretched.
Following the release the Norwegian Ambassador criticized the film. But it has become the highest grossing Bollywood film in Norway.
I was reminded of the desperate wife, Madhu, in ‘Roja’ who is meeting the authorities for her abducted husband. Here, it is the mother Rani, at her best, who is desperate for her kids. Separating a six month old from the mother is criminal. When the baby is still breastfed.
The role of Sushma Swaraj & Vrinda Karanth in support of the mother paved the way to success. Kudos to them. Getting the custody of her own children was an uphill task.
A good film.
