Hunger

It is a 2023 Thai film.Directed by Sitisiri Mongkolsiri. It stars Chutimon Chuenhcharoensukying & Nopachai Chaiyanam. It is very aesthetic & has a story to tell.

It is about a talented young street food chef who pushes herself to the limit after accepting an invitation to train under an infamous & ruthless chef. A cooking story in the form of a thriller with tension & has a good high contrast photography.

‘Hunger’ made in 2008 or ‘Hunger games’ are totally different. From the synopsis I was expecting it to be similar to ‘The Perfect Match’ 2017 Chinese drama had a Cordon Bleu head chef crossing paths with a chef at a night market. It was a rom com but the ingredients the same.

No love here. Only open challenges. The cut throat competition & getting better at one’s craft. The parties hosted by the elite an open battlefield.

Tests relationships & familial responsibilities. Staying at the top is not so easy.

An intense film. ‘Food for the poor is to satisfy their hunger. But the rich have a hunger for more. Name, fame, money, power’. Be hungry. Be special.

I love when the protagonist is a female with an ambition. She quits ‘Hunger’ & her mentor to head ‘Flame’ on her own! Wok in her hand embodies her passion for food. She loves to feed people.

Her mentor, Chef Paul, believes in people wanting him, begging on their hand & feet. She believes in good food. Serving it well. She has a handed down recipe of noodles by her grandmother. She believes in good food to feed people. She also challenges her mentor in the end.
