Spirit Untamed

It is a 2021 American computer animated adventure film produced by Dreamworks Animation.Directed by Elaine Bogan & co-directed by Ennio Torresan Jr. It is the second theatrical film release of the Spirit franchise & is both a spin-off & a stand-alone sequel of the traditionally animated “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” (2002).

It is loosely based on the characters from it’s Netflix animated spin-off TV series Spirit Riding Free, developed by Wallington.

The critics have a mixed bag of reviews. Many feel it is not as good as the original. It won the Truly Moving Picture Award at the Heartland Film Festival in 2021. Reaching the level set by the original is always difficult. The bar is set high.

Young Lucky Prescott befriends a wild mustang named Spirit, who shares her rebellious spirit. Lucky & her two friends embark on an adventure of a lifetime to rescue the herd of horses, Spirit’s family, that changes her life forever.

She tames, befriends Spirit but the journey makes her aware of how he must miss his family & she releases him, finally. But the end is too soon, too abrupt.

The buildup is fine but the end could have been not so brief. Culmination is too sudden. Animation is nice. So is the train. The herd moves so fine.
