Birthday Party

In the good old days, it was going to school leaden with a packet of sweets to be distributed in the class. Entering every class & giving sweets to the teacher, I believe was a brave move.

Today at an age of.. of course old enough I wonder if it would have been possible by me. Giving sweets to my class & the teachers who taught that day. I don’t remember going to the staff room ever. When I see students asking for a teacher, I honestly wonder at their bravery.

Lack of confidence, maybe. Shyness to the core, maybe. It was something between being an extrovert & introvert. I still enjoy the company of my friends ttto a limit. I cannot be lost in their stories forever. I usually lost track when in school but it rarely happens today!

With maturity came the seriousness about it all. Leaving the presents till the guests left was a norm. Balloons & cake with icing .. was a rarity enjoyed only once a year. Plates full of wafers & soft drinks, unlimited is a norm today.

Children are so few that I saw only the small ones of the security or house helpers. Good they need equal treatment but not having real friends around, only unknown small faces with uncles, aunties around!

The costumes have changed & so have people gradually. Money is no problem & real friends are so few! Do I miss the mother, grandmother making goodies & you getting the first chance ever at it?! Maybe.
